Partial School Closures Dashboard
This dashboard shows the evolution of countries with school closures reported at "partially open" over time.
There are two possible ways of counting the students affected by school closures:
- Methodology 1: An approach developed early on in the pandemic, where affected learners were only those from countries categorized as 'Closed due to COVID-19', which was the most relevant scheme at the time. As the pandemic evolved, countries adopted alternative approaches to total closure of the educational system. In this approach, students from countries categorized as 'Partially open' do not count as affected.
- Methodology 2: The second approach includes the learners from Methodology 1 and adds an estimated percentage of students from countries categorized as 'Partially open' (the estimate varies depending on the importance of the grades/regions that report that their students do not attend school in person).
For this visualization, it is important to note that the status of closure is not specific to each country. Rather, each educational level within the country presents its own status. This allows the main trends in primary and secondary education to be highlighted separately.
